- Explore force, friction, balance, motion, and simple mechanics.
- Collect measurements during climbing-based experiments.
- Record observations in a lab notebook.
- Practice turning results into clear conclusions.
Course structure
8 weeks. 1.5 hours each week.
Week 1
Push, Pull, and Motion
Explore how pushes and pulls change motion and how force shows up in climbing.
Week 2
Gravity and Wall Angles
Investigate how gravity acts on the body and why different wall angles feel different.
Week 3
Friction with Climbing Shoes
Compare surfaces and footwear to see how friction affects grip and movement.
Week 4
Balance and Center of Mass
Use body position and climbing movement to explore balance and center of mass.
Week 5
Climbing Hold Mechanics
Study how hold shape, direction, and body position affect the forces a climber can apply.
Week 6
Pressure on Footholds
Explore how force and contact area affect pressure on footholds.
Week 7
Energy in Movement
Connect energy to climbing movement, including controlled and dynamic motion.
Week 8
Physics Investigation
Bring the course together through a final hands-on investigation using the scientific method.
